Therapy During Ramadan

Here are 3 ways that therapists can support our Muslim clients during Ramadan:

1. Be flexible with appointment times
As Ramadan involves fasting from dawn to sunset, which can affect energy levels and concentration, especially later in the day, consider offering earlier sessions or after Iftar when clients may feel more grounded. This is so they can be at their best and make the most of their session.

2. Be considerate of fasting
If like me, you usually encourage clients to bring along a cuppa or a drink for sessions, this won’t be possible when they are fasting so skip this offer until after Eid.

3. Consider slower, softer sessions
As fasting can affect energy levels and concentration, consider being more flexible in your pace. Lean into summaries and check-in you’re both on the same page.

And a bonus tip: always meet our clients with compassionate curiosity — asking, listening, and adapting rather than assuming.
